As part of Mental Health Week, Fremantle City Library is holding a Living Library event. Come along and talk to people from diverse backgrounds including people with mental health issues, their supporters, their friends and health professionals. This is a great opportunity to gain a better understanding about mental health and mental illness. The Living Library event is also being held at Midland Library, the State Library of Western Australia and the City of Gosnells.
The Department of Health describes Living Libraries as working “like a normal library, except the “book” is a person who shares their experiences and stories, and gives the borrowers a chance to ask questions.” The aim is to increase understanding of mental health issues in the community through one-on-one, personal sessions between books and readers in a relaxed, friendly environment.
