Fremantle Library Tuesday Morning Book Club review
The book was about a 12 year old American Chinese boy living in Seattle during WW11, his relationship with a 12 year old American Japanese girl and their struggles during these years. This story was told from the perspective of the 1940s of the war and 1985/6 as a widower and father, with changes in time frames throughout the novel.
All participants thought that it was an interesting and informative subject matter. Although in areas it lacked depth and many of the themes of the book could have been explored in greater depth.
Perhaps if it had been more reflective in the final stages of the book many loose ends could have been tied up.
A number of members felt it would be an interesting text for secondary schools.
