TAG Hungerford

WritingWA is now accepting manuscripts for the 2014 City of Fremantle T.A.G. Hungerford Award.

The City of Fremantle T.A.G. Hungerford Award is given for a full-length manuscript of fiction or creative non-fiction by a Western Australian author previously unpublished in book form. It honours Tom Hungerford, a prolific and much admired Western Australian author who was also a generous supporter of new and emerging writers.

Sponsored by the City of Fremantle, writingWA, The West Australian and Fremantle Press, winners receive a cash prize of $12,000 and a publishing contract with the Press.

Fremantle Press publisher and Hungerford judge Georgia Richter said what she was looking for in a Hungerford manuscript was:
• something fresh, interesting, gripping,
• a work that makes a connection with the reader, and,
• a manuscript in which the writer is in control.

‘Winners in recent years have been for very different stories, styles and directions – but they have all had these things in common,’ said Richter.

The closing date for entries is 5pm, Monday 30 June 2014. Entries postmarked or delivered after this time will not be accepted. Entries may be lodged by post or delivered to:
