2014 Prime Minister’s Literary Awards – Non Fiction

Next up in our series of Prime Minister’s Awards shortlists and winners is the non-fiction category. Here are the shortlisted titles:

  • Moving Among Strangers, Gabrielle Carey (University of Queensland Press) – the author’s recounting of the days of her mother, Joan Carey, and her friendship with the author Randolph Stow.
  • The Lucky Culture, Nick Cater (Harper Collins Publishers) – senior editor at the Australian writes about the rise of the ruling class in Australian society.
  • Citizen Emperor, Philip Dwyer (Bloomsbury Publishing) – young Napoleon’s life after the coup of 1799.
  • Rendezvous with Destiny, Michael Fullilove (Penguin) – the story of emissaries dispatched to Europe by Roosevelt and their impact on the war.
  • Madeleine: A Life of Madeleine St John, Helen Trinca (Text Publishing) – a biography of the Australian author, who died in 2006.

The winners of the category were Moving Among Strangers by Gabrielle Carey and Madeleine: A Life of Madeleine St John by Helen Trinca.
