Fremantle City Library is currently hosting a photographic exhibition entitled Missing Lives, which will be on display until 1 April 2015.
Missing Lives is a photography exhibition by award-winning British photojournalist Nick Danziger. The photographs were taken in the aftermath of the conflict in the former Yugoslavia in the 1990s which claimed the lives of about 140,000 people. A quarter of those victims simply vanished and as of 2010 almost 15,000 people remained unaccounted for.
The exhibition documents the plight of a handful of the thousands of families still waiting to learn the fate of their loved ones and depicts the work that the Red Cross and other organisations have been doing in the Balkans since 1991 to identify remains and trace them back to families. Based on a book of the same name, Missing Lives highlights the tragic consequences of what happens when rules of war are not followed, but it also illustrates the strength and resilience of the victims still searching for missing friends and relatives.
